Ace Found a Forever Home!!

I have wonderful news! Ace has found an amazing, loving family to call his own. He was adopted this past Saturday by the Ehrhard Family (pictured below). Ace will now reside in a great neighborhood in the Longwood, FL area, and he also has a new furry friend (also pictured below) to run through the yard with and keep each other company. I will still be keeping in touch with Ace's new family and post his updates on the blog.

No More Bandage...

Ace got his bandage removed this weekend!! He is very happy to be able to be bandage free on all legs. Ace is getting around great with only a little limp. Once he gains a little muscle in that leg, he should be walking close to normal. I will post some pictures this week for you all to see how great he looks. Ace went to adoptions at PetSmart this past weekend for the first time since his surgery and a nice couple did fill out an application for him. I am not sure yet if they have been approved or when we will be allowing Ace to actually go to a new home. Check back again soon for more information.

Big Check-up for Ace

Ace got his first set of x-rays today since his surgery about 4 weeks ago. The doctor said he is very pleased with what the x-rays showed, and he said Ace's leg was healing better than expected at this point. The doctor recommended that Ace wear his soft bandage for one more week and then have it removed for good. I know Ace will be very excited to get his bandage off this Satruday. Ace has been doing great at home. He walks well on both legs and has been doing a little jumping and running (which is suppose to be pretty restricted still). Ace has really come out of his shell since he has been feeling better. He is still fairly shy with new people but LOVES to play now with the other dogs, chew bones, play with toys, and of course snuggle under the covers in bed at night. It's great to see him feeling so much better and doing so well. Please continue to think about him and spread the word that he is still waiting for his forever home.

Suture Removal

Ace had his sutures removed this weekend and a bandage change. The doctor said his wound has healed perfect with no infection. If all goes well, he will be able to have his bandage removed in 2 weeks!!

Ace is getting around great. He is feeling so good that he is doing things that he is not suppose to be doing yet!! I have to keep a close eye on him in the house. The poor guy's leg probably hasn't felt this good in months; he is wanted to play a lot with the other dogs. It is so sweet to watch him act more and more like the young dog he is each day.

Thank you again to all of Ace's supporters. This was not possible without the help of such generous people. Ace is still looking for a forever home!

Beginning of the Week Update

Ace made it through the weekend great! On Saturday he started putting the leg he had operated on down for the first time! This is good progress for him. He also had a vet visit to get his first bandage change on Saturday. The doctor said that his incision was healing well and looked really good. It was not swollen or infected, which is great!

I have been able to cut back his pain medicine to twice a day instead of 3 times a day, so that is also good news for Ace. He seems to be walking a little more each day on his surgically repaired front leg. Please keep him in your hearts during this trying time. Ace is so eagerly awaiting to play like a normal, one year old dog! His next recheck is this coming Saturday.

If you look closely, he was passed out on the couch with his tongue sticking out... it was so sweet!

We've Reached our Goal!

Thank you VERY much to everyone that was generous enough to donate money for Ace's cause. We have reached our $3,000 goal and have been able to pay off the rest of our bill at AVS for Ace's surgery. Any further donations received will go towards Ace's recovery, a possible surgery on his other broken leg, or to the MANY other needy animals that A New Beginning rescues every day. Ace, A New Beginning, and myself are very thankful and appreciative for all the support you all have shown this wonderful little dog.

Please continue to spread the word about A New Beginning Pet Care and Rescue, Inc. and what we do. We are ALWAYS in need of foster homes, dog and cat supplies, cleaning supplies, and especially monetary donations. Please visit our website at http://www.anewbeginning.petfinder.com/ to learn more about the organization and how your donations are making a positive impact.

I will still continue to update the blog on Ace's progress. So far he is doing really well with his recovery. His leg is in quite a bit of pain, but the pain medicine is really helping. Ace is just enjoying snuggling and relaxing at home with his temporary family.

Ace is Back at Home!

Ace made it through surgery well yesterday and is back home with me and his foster friends. It was so sad when I went to pick him up. He had lots of tears running from his eyes and was shaking like a leaf. Once I got him in the car and he realized that he was back with me, he stopped shaking and just kept rubbing on me to pet him.

Ace has to be on 3 different medicines for a little while and get bandage changes every 5-7 days. He will have rechecks at 4 weeks and 8 weeks that will cost $250 each. Ace should also be going through physical therapy, so hopefully if we raise enough money he can get the physical therapy he needs to recover sooner. He has a long road ahead of him, but has a loving home to recover in.

Once his leg starts to heal more, we will find out if he needs surgery on his other leg as well. The pictures here are of Ace enjoying being home and getting a nice rub down!

The blue bandage is the leg he had surgery on. It required the removal of a small piece of bone, a slight rotation, a bone graph from his shoulder, a metal plate, and 5 screws! Poor Ace had to go through quite a bit! The green bandage is the leg that had 2 fractures that healed on their own but with a bad deformity that may require surgery so he can walk without pain or discomfort. Oh, and to add to it all, Ace was also neutered at the same time thanks to the wonderful doctors!
